This has got to be the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life , it is so long and boring also incredibly insulting to movies. This movie is so bad the people that made it should be shot in the street. My friend bought this movie before seeing it on instinct and after watching it he gave it to me. He said it's not a gift , I can just have it. I watched it ,then I was given 2 options , sell the piece of crap on ebay for like a cent or two , or burn it. For my own satisfaction I burned it. I've played House of the Dead and it is not a game that lends itself to being madea movie (does any game?), it's one of those arcade games where you shoot at the screen with a sort of light gun. The object of the game is to kill zombies, nothing more, and that shows in this movie adaptation. There are even a few shots from the game thrown into the movie to make it even more apparent that this is a bad adaptation.<br/><br/>The first half of the movie is really just the build up to the big, game style, zombie battle. It introduces the characters (card board cut outs), and establishes the setting. It is also supposed to have an ominous feel about it, building up anticipation and when the zombies show it it should be scary. This does not work, it is just so goofy. There are several unmotivated boobie flashes and scenes of unintentional comedy that completely ruin the mood and when the zombies show up they are laughable, not scary.<br/><br/>Around the half time mark, the movie just gives up on being scary and goes into complete game mode. It starts off with a scene showing the crew load up on weapons, that would put the loading up scene in Commando to shame. You would not believe the amount of guns they bring. Then we come to the big action scene. There is zombie killing all around, these kids (who don't know anything about guns) are instantly turned into zombie killing badasses. Every single one of them even gets their own "cool" Matrix style mid air freeze and spin around camera. It's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. <br/><br/>The movie could have ended there and it would have been fine but after they make it to the house and take refuge, the end just becomes drawn out and slow which kills an otherwise funny (if not good) movie.
Does little more than add another title to the very long list of movies influenced by George Romero's 1968 horror classic, "Night of the Living Dead."
In 2003, House of the Dead, the first video game adaptation of Uwe Boll, who has gotten himself a certain reputation in this area, was released. The film is a mundane zombie flick with a shallow plot and a tendency to be trash. Five years later, Lions Gate has released a Director's Cut version of the film on DVD. The film was made into a comedy with new music, alternative scenes, outtakes and several overlay-commentaries - which is the reason for the subtitle "Funny Version" on the DVD's front cover.
